Eastern Region Shield 2021 Cancelled - 15th Aug 2021 by email

Dear Captains

After 3 attempts to secure team entries for this year’s event, we have only managed to secure 3 teams. I was expecting a surge in angler numbers after last year, but it seems angling and patricianly match is struggling.  Yes, the match calendar is busy as it has been for several years, but we have always found a way of supporting this historic regional competition. Sadly, it seems no more.  So, we have decided to cancel this year’s event.

The host club Boston and District have spent many hours on clearly some 60 new pegs on this once famous match venue, as well as addition weed cutting by the EA and the placement of additional weed booms. We have requested they halt their efforts from today.

We had scheduled the event as normal in the 2nd weekend of Sept, but this year the Div 2 national was moved to the same weekend, in which over 400 team anglers take part. So this could be the main reason. We couldn’t move it forward as it clashed with the Div 1 national and moving it back clashed with the start of the winter leagues. So I really have to ask, is their room for this competition any more.

Keep safe

Regards

Kelvin & Andy

Eastern Regional Shield 2021 Details

As per our initial invitation back in February, I have secured the Bargate Drain Boston for the competition to take place on Sunday 12th Sept 2021.

The river needs effort to clear the weed by the respective club this year, so I want to ensure we have a respective number of teams entered.  Venue details are available via https://www.bostonanglingassociation.co.uk/venues/bargate

I agreed with Andy Jackson that he will lead this year’s event, as I will be in Holland fishing hopefully on a 3rd rescheduled fishing trip.

We have now secured  Boston Town Football Club, Tattershall Road, Boston PE21 9LRas a headquarters. Tea, Coffee and food will be available both in the morning and the afternoon also in the afternoon a bar will be open.

We have quite a bit of interest from local teams, but are mindful this is planned the day after the div 2 national in Shropshire, but the match calendar is really squeezed and we have little choice before the start of the winter league.

We would like all teams entered and fully paid by the 1st Sep, this is 12 days prior to the event.  Team of 6 entry is £150 with an ioptional super pool of £5 per person.

Registration details.

I have secured the Middle Level Main Drain for this year’s competition to be held on Sunday the 8th Sept. It will use the Adrian Flux Arena (KL Speedway Clubhouse) as its headquarters, where breakfast will be served from 07:15 and returning to announce the winners and a couple of beers. There is plenty of parking at the stadium and it’s around 3 miles away from the furthest section, so the competition will run from 10:30 – 15:30.

We have with Ray Malle’s help put together the sections which will be between St Mary’s and Magdalen Bridges, in 20 peg sections.  Parking will be available behind each peg on the bank.

The competition will follow an open match on the previous Sunday which Ray Malle is running, details are attached.

I  look forward to your early registration, as I hope to have a full house of now 20 teams. So please let me know, if you intend to enter as early as possible.

Eastern Region Shield 2018

As announced last year, I have secured the River Ouse in and around Bedford for this year’s competition to be held on Sunday the 16th Sept. It will use the Danish Camp at Willington as its headquarters, where breakfast will be served from 07:15 and returning to announce the winners and a couple of beers. There is plenty of parking at the Danish Camp and it’s around 4.5 miles away from the furthest section at Oakley, so the competition will run from 10:30 – 15:30.

I have with Graham Palmer and Steve Drakulic’s help put together the sections which will start at Willingham, Kempston, Billingham and Oakley, in 20 peg sections.

I have quite a bit of interest from local teams, in what will be a stick float tactics, at first for the ERS.

The competition will follow on two weeks after the hospital cup, another long standing and famous match. Steve and James Drakulic are however running a summer series of matches which are open for all to attend.  Details are attached.

I look forward to your early registration, as I hope to have a full house of 20 teams. So please let me know, if you intend to enter as early as possible.

102 anglers from 17 teams across the region fished todays hard event, which was split across Ferry Meadows and the River Nene at Orton.

A Section Monument Bank

B Section Monument Bank

C Section Roman Bank (Only 1 fish weighed in!)

D Section Nene Orton Upstream

E Section Nene Orton Upstream

F Section Nene Orton Downstream

Please note updated 19th Sep 09:55, Peg B11 Lloyd Mahoney informed me that he didn't weigh but the board had him down as 50g. This removes 6 points from Colemans Cottage Tackle & Bait. It doesn't impact on any pools.

I have amended the records to reflect this below.
