The EA and IFM would like to invite you to a FREE one day Weed Management Workshop to be held at Wicksteed Park

Weed Management WorkshopWeed Management Workshop Wicksteed Park, Barton Road, Kettering NN15 6NJ 15th February 2020

Our aim is that by improving knowledge within the angling community and of active club members about how best to manage and control weed, your fisheries will benefit. We would like to invite you to a FREE one day Weed Management Workshop to be held at Wicksteed Park (postcode NN15 6NJ).

Our aim is that by improving knowledge within the angling community and of active club members about how best to manage and control weed, your fisheries will benefit. The workshop will look at all aspects of weed management and control including what water plants there are, how they work and the problems they can cause, invasive non-natives plants, mechanical removal, algal control and much more.It will aim to help you:

  • Create a balanced fishery
  • Realise the importance of aquatic weed management
  • Understand techniques available for controlling difficult plants

This workshop has been developed by the Environment Agency and the Institute of Fisheries Management (IFM). We are able to offer your club, or fishery up to 4 places completely free of charge. Further places may be available on request.

Tea and coffee will be available on arrival and during the day however, attendees will need to supply their own lunch. There are cafes and food stalls around the park which will be open for attendees..
We ask you to consider carefully your nominations for this workshop. The cost to develop, and run it comes from income received from anglers buying a fishing licence, therefore it is in all our interests to ensure this money is not wasted. We also want you to get the best possible outcome for your fishery so would suggest the people attending are committed to the club, or fishery, and its future success.
If you have any questions about this event please contact Sue Laver.
Please complete and return the attached strip or alternatively email your response to sue.laver@environment-agency.gov.uk by Friday 31st January to confirm you places.

Open letter to the Nene Welland and Witham consultative on grants to fisheries this spring.

We are writing to Angling Clubs and fisheries across the Environment Agency Lincs and Northants Area to offer the oppertunity to bid into a Rfieries Resilience Scheme.

This fund is designed for purchase of equipment to ensure that your club can be proactive in its management during times of environmental stress such as too much or too little rain. By having equipment directly at your disposal this will enable you to keep a close eye on the water quality, manage your fishery in a sustainable manner and respond promptly when required.

Further details about this scheme are:

The maximum bid available is £1000.

  • The monies must be spent on aeration equipment (pumps, aerators, dissolved oxygen meters)
  • Any unspent monies must be returned to the Environment Agency
  • The equipment’s sole use is to assist with the enhancement and resilience of your clubs’ fisheries.
  • The scheme is only available for this year and bids need to be received by Monday 6th May 2019.
  • Receipts for the equipment purchased must be available for review by the Environment Agency up until two years after purchase.
  • We reserve the right to visit your site to ensure that the equipment is being used as intended.

If you are interested in bidding into this scheme, please send a completed application form to Liz Sroga, Environment Agency, Ceres House, Searby Road, Lincoln, LN2 4DW or Liz.sroga@environment-agency.gov.uk .  The form is available here.

Kind regards
